From the archives... an early drawing in my "cutout" graphic style. I was quite taken by the model's natural beauty and couldn't resist utilizing all that negative space...

OK, I just looked at the original photo, and I have to say the way you added the black-and-white tiles on the floor is genius! Also the way you handled the splash of light behind the figure. The more I look at this the more I like it!

:) hey thanks man, i really appreciate that!  although it looks simple this piece was a real
pain in the ass... did 3 or 4 roughs trying to figure how to translate the photo into my drawing
style... it's deciding what elements to remove or keep, in order to get what i hope will be an
interesting and intriguing image for the viewer  so glad to know you like it!

Yea, I really like your two-tone style. It breaks-down the image into it's most essential elements. What you came up with is a very dramatic and pleasing composition.

I learned something when I saw that you omitted the rectangles from the door. I would have fallen into the trap of keeping them. BTW, I have experimented with a related style, except with three tones: orionshipworks.deviantart.com/…

:) well when i was doing the preliminary sketch i did work in all the floor tiles... but
while inking the final drawing i decided it looked pretty cool as is, and just erased the remaining
pencil lines. definitely gave it a more dramatic effect.

took a peek at your painting and i really like the result  i might have gone with a lighter grey
tone to bring out the female figure a bit more... but overall it's a very cool piece. :)

Yes, the result is very dramatic. And the visual balance is spot on. This is a favorite among my favorites!

Thanks for checking out my painting. I'll admit I'm not 100% satisfied with it yet. I've been thinking of a lighter grey as well.
Perhaps I might try a little light grey pastel. Or I could stipple white over the grey like some of the buildings already have.
This also adds something like a film grain effect.

In my painting I'm trying to avoid 3D modeling created by shadow. In that way it relates to this image of yours.
You've created depth by perspective lines alone. It's fairly unique in that you use no gradual shading.
BTW, I see at least little relationship between this drawing and Japanese wood block prints.

I like how you distilled the photo into these critical elements. Nicely balanced composition.

Could you work with the crucified female Jesus as subject ? I'm sure that with your talent, you would make very interesting works.
